This is a copy of the letter sent out to the communities we live in from the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation in partnership with the Auxiliary Society for Comox Valley Healthcare!
Dear Friends, Neighbours, and Supporters,
Many of you will be receiving a letter from us in the mail with details about our current campaign and an exciting matching gift opportunity. Given the current unpredictability with mailed communication, we have also provided the details here, with direct links to learn more. Thank you in advance for taking a moment to read the information or watch the videos.
Across the Comox Valley and surrounding region, thousands of people pass through the doors of our local hospital each year—seeking answers, relief, and reassurance. It might be a friend or colleague arriving in the Emergency Department, a mother or daughter undergoing a mammogram, or a community member awaiting important medical answers. These moments touch all of us. Behind every diagnosis is a need for clarity—a story that begins with timely access to the right equipment and unfolds through the uncertainty that only compassionate, close-to-home care can help navigate.
In our community of approximately 75,000, diagnostic equipment is used more than 104,000 times each year. These tools are often the first step in a patient’s journey, quietly guiding physicians toward timely, accurate decisions. From oncology to orthopedics, maternity to emergency care, diagnostic imaging is a cornerstone of modern medicine.
And we know—now more than ever—timely access to these tools can make all the difference.
This fall, we are reaching out with a shared desire to grow, to strengthen, and to advance the care available in our community. We recognize that when urgent medical questions arise, the need for answers can feel overwhelming—and the uncertainty, deeply personal. Across the Comox Valley, families know what it means to wait, to worry, and to hope.
Together with the Auxiliary Society for Comox Valley Healthcare, we are committed to enhancing diagnostic services at the Comox Valley Hospital.
The Auxiliary Society for Comox Valley Healthcare has stepped up to match each gift made towards diagnostic equipment, up to $100,000, to help replace aging equipment and invest in more advanced, responsive technology.
This investment includes a fully upgraded ultrasound fleet with six new machines, and a state-of-the-art mammography unit capable of performing over 5,600 exams each year. These upgrades will mean shorter wait times, sharper imaging, and greater comfort for patients during some of life’s most vulnerable and difficult moments.
Please consider making a gift to our fall campaign and double your impact. Every donation – large or small – makes a meaningful difference.
With sincere gratitude,
Rhonda Stevens & Avry Janes

We had the opportunity to connect with some of our healthcare colleagues in the Emergency and Medical Imaging Departments at the Comox Valley Hospital as well as our hospital’s Site Director to help us understand how vital diagnostic advancement is for the Comox Valley. We are thrilled we can share their words with you today. Please click through the link below to watch a video and to learn more about our diagnostic advancement campaign.
One Patient’s Story Your generosity helps provide enhanced care for community members and friends like Chris who recently depended on this vital equipment after a bike accident.
His story reminds us that local healthcare is not just about fixing broken bones — it’s about restoring our spirits, helping us return to the things we love, and supporting us every step of the way. READ CHRIS’ STORY
Why a New Ultrasound Fleet Matters
Join us as we hear from one of our healthcare colleagues about the need for this equipment and how it will make a real difference in our community.
Alex Melanson, Medical Imaging Manager for North Vancouver Island, sees firsthand how ultrasound technology is used in every stage of life and why it’s time for an upgrade at our local hospital.
DONATIONS TOWARDS DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT WILL BE MATCHED The Auxiliary Society for Comox Valley Healthcare will double all gifts made towards diagnostic equipment up to $100,000.
This morning, members of the Auxiliary Society for Comox Valley Healthcare participated in the Nautical Days Parade in Comox. We had a wonderful time, and it was heartening to see such a strong community turnout.
Our organization was established in 1914, and over the years, we have raised millions of dollars to support healthcare in the Comox Valley. All funds raised remain within the Comox Valley and are thoughtfully allocated to enhance patient care and improve quality of life for residents.
Today, the Auxiliary Society for Comox Valley Healthcare is made up of approximately 130 members, and we are always looking to welcome new volunteers to assist with the Thrift Store and Gift Shop.
Here are just a few of the organizations our fundraising efforts support:
Comox Valley Hospital (supporting the purchase of specialized medical equipment and patient care initiatives)
Comox Valley Glacier View
Providence Living
Cumberland Lodge
We walked in today’s parade with gratitude and pride, proudly displaying a cheque representing our total donations for 2024 totaling $657,000. We are also on track to donate a similar amount in 2025. None of this would be possible without our dedicated volunteers and the generosity of our community.
A heartfelt thank-you to all of YOU for your continued support.
